Future fuels

WHAT POWERS THE FUTURE

As emission regulations change, so does the demand for new forms of power. We are exploring future fuels to discover the most reliable and efficient solutions to maximize your performance.

WE ALREADY USE HVO

Drop-in fuels can already be used in off-highway vehicles. At AGCO Power’s Linnavuori plant, tractors and trucks use renewable HVO diesel (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) for factory area operations.

Candidates for powering the work of tomorrow:

HVO diesel

Produced from renewable foodstock raw materials through hydrogenation, Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil is already available and a great choice for reducing CO2 emissions short-term.

Synthetic diesel

Produced from hydrogen generated with renewable electricity and captured carbon dioxide. Keeps combustion engines in play, but cost and availability remain challenges.

Ethanol and methanol

Widely used as bio-components in gasoline, but they can also be used as pure engine fuels. Great runtime but limited adaptation, power density and supply chains.

Biogas

On-farm fuel made from manure or waste. Purity requirements are high, and purification consumes a lot of energy for tractor use. Viability depends on local infrastructure.

Hydrogen

Hydrogen delivers near-diesel efficiency with low emissions. The challenges are volumetric energy density, large scale infrastructure, green production and storage.
